Return to AmapaRon looked lean and hungry when he stepped off the plane in Belem. Not for food, but for the adventure that is the Amazon. "Well, finally made it." He said with a greeting grin. This would be his second junket with me into the forest, and we had been looking forward to going for some time. We did not waste much time, that afternoon on the street outside where we were staying he was already shooting up the place. More than a pro, Ron is an artist with his camera, and sees things the rest up us would hardly notice. Children playing in the street, the architecture, the traffic, all was strange and different if you wanted to really take a look. Close by is Vero Rio a "boardwalk" along the river, and we spent the evening sitting in the open cafes, catching up, enjoying the local beverages, and photographing the river and the drama of the Amazon sunset. Dave came through the gate at the Belem airport with a smile that wouldn't stop, and a few days later Art joined us. With the team assembled we setout to enjoy Belem a little. We wandered the old city close and bustling, drank Guarana in tiny street bars in buildings one could hardly believe were habitable. Belem is very old and it looks it. The harbor and fort are a delight dating from the 15th century. To be continued........................
